Five Go Mad

The Travel Times

Star Wars 1 (that’s episode 4) came out when I was eleven and I still remember seeing it at the Civic and being deeply moved by the experience. Mind you that was when there was an intermission so you could go for a pee half-way through.  They should bring that back.  It’s really hard to invest yourself emotionally at krinchence time, which is invariably at about 85% through and you started to regret getting the large coke back at the hour mark which was nearly an hour ago and you know it’s at least twenty minutes to go and you’re pretty busting but you think you’ll be fine if you loosen your belt and keep very still.

The other thing they had in 1977 was tangyfruits which came in a pottle with a lid not a bag.  Tangyfruits were a big deal to eleven year old me because they were a bit flash but it was the pottle that made the experience extra special. When the lid was opened a waft of pure tangyfruit gas would burst out and excite the senses and saliva glands.  When the lid was closed you could be confident that all was secure and none of the precious balls of ersatz fruity goodness could escape or be fingered by grubby pals or sticky siblings.  Anyhoo, I found myself laughing like a drain (don’t know, it’s something my father used to say) at how circumstances cooked up over 38 intervening years landed me in a theatre in Vienna with a wife beside me and very excited grown children at midnight watching basically the same movie.  Great fun!

Didn't have to stay up till midnight the first time! Carrie Fisher not quite so arresting to the senses this time either.

"How do you like your eggs- oops I mean Nespresso George? By the way have I told you how much you look like my husband?"

How old is this ferris wheel again?

Spire filled view from top- En-spired? Inspiring? (Dad jokes coming along well)

Albertine Gallery- Very fine outside, a Scream inside (the one by Munch) amongst other less alarming painters

Interesting facts on the tram tour. Interesting and warm.

Feeling liftless? Take the stairs. Apartment living.

A Christmas Market throng going by.

A mediaeval Austrian custom. Stringing up captured sonwmen as an example to other snowmen
